when the internet first happened a ton of businesses popped up to help companies sell stuff online these companies made a lot of money, building e-commerce systems for existing giants but the absolute best thing you could have been working on during this era was shopify you see this again with a ton of ai companies that are doing the forward deployed engineer model and super proud of it and printing large revenue numbers it's not like they'll fail or anything but it's not very fun and doesn't result in a forever company that gets to be involved in the next thing
